Garden Celebration in Honour of His Excellency Jeremiah Kingsley Mamabolo: A Celebration of UK–South Africa Friendship, Culture and Ubuntu

Last week, the South African Chamber of Commerce UK, together with ACTSA, had the privilege of hosting a special Garden Celebration in honour of His Excellency Jeremiah Kingsley Mamabolo, South African High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
Held at the South African High Commissioner’s Residence in London, the event brought together dignitaries, business leaders, community representatives, partners and friends from across the UK–South Africa network to recognise His Excellency’s distinguished service and his contribution to strengthening the relationship between our two countries.
On one of the hottest days London has seen this year, it felt strangely familiar to gather in a beautiful garden, shaded and welcoming, with that unmistakable South African warmth in the air. Even when some very African weather made a brief appearance, the spirit of ubuntu, fellowship and connection remained at the heart of the afternoon.
The afternoon was expertly guided by our MC, Ronak Gopaldas, and brought together a wide range of voices and contributions around a shared theme: leadership, partnership and ubuntu. We were honoured to hear personal reflections and tributes from Lord Peter Hain and Lord Paul Boateng, both of whom spoke to the importance of the UK–South Africa relationship, democracy, shared values and future cooperation.
A particular highlight was the outstanding cultural programme, featuring performances by the National Youth Choir of South Africa, led by Musical Director Phil Robinson, and artists from the Grammy-nominated production INALA. We also recognise Keith and Catherine Borien from BEFSA for their support in bringing the choir to the UK, and Ella Spira MBE and Pietra Mello-Pittman MBE for their contribution through INALA. Their talent, energy and passion brought a real sense of pride to the occasion and served as a powerful reminder of South Africa’s rich cultural heritage, and of the role that arts and culture play in connecting people across borders.
The day was also made possible by many people working quietly behind the scenes, from the ACTSA and Chamber representatives welcoming guests, to Ntombi and the Zee Zee Events team providing the hospitality throughout the afternoon.
On behalf of the South African Chamber of Commerce UK, we extend our sincere thanks to His Excellency Jeremiah Kingsley Mamabolo for his leadership, commitment and support of the South African community and business network in the United Kingdom. We wish him every success in the next chapter of his journey.
Our thanks also go to our Gold sponsor Naspers-Prosus, represented on the day by Phuthi Mahanyele-Dabengwa and David Tudor, General Counsel and Global Head of Government Affairs at Prosus, and our generous supporting sponsors Absa, Bruce Jack Wines, Bomb Squad Beer, INALA, Spiritfilled Whisky, Virgin Atlantic, Mahala Botanical, Nando’s, Tashas, SA Shop and Banhoek Chilli Oil.
