From Munich to Momentum: Building Connections Beyond Borders

One of the highlights of my recent trip to Munich was spending time with several of the founders and supporters involved in establishing the German Chamber, an exciting initiative aimed at strengthening business ties between South Africa, Germany and Europe.

The visit coincided with the Springboks’ clash against New Zealand on 22 August, providing the perfect excuse to gather with South Africans, Kiwis and rugby enthusiasts at a local bar to watch the action unfold. Unfortunately, the result didn’t go our way, and the mood at the final whistle was a little subdued. That said, as any rugby supporter knows, a good game, good company and a cold beer can still make for a memorable evening.

I also had the opportunity to catch up with Christian Jansen over a beer to discuss the progress being made with the German Chamber and explore ways in which our respective networks can collaborate more closely in the future. It was encouraging to see the enthusiasm for creating new opportunities and stronger connections between businesses operating across our regions.

While we may have left Munich disappointed by the result on the pitch, the relationships strengthened during the visit made the trip worthwhile. And with the Springboks having since returned to winning ways, rugby harmony has thankfully been restored!

As Chambers, our greatest asset is our people. Whether those conversations happen in a boardroom, at a networking event or while watching a rugby match abroad, it is often these informal moments that create the foundations for future partnerships and opportunities.

Go Bokke! 🇿🇦🏉
