Wines of Colour South Africa Showcases Emerging Producers in London

The Chamber recently partnered with Wines of Colour South Africa (WOCSA) to promote Black South African wine producers at a London trade and stakeholder event, held alongside the London Wine Fair in May.
Hosted at Standard Bank’s London offices, the event featured a curated selection of South African wines and provided a platform for emerging producers to engage with international audiences.
WOCSA is a non-profit development platform dedicated to advancing Black-owned wine enterprises in South Africa. Its programmes support businesses across the agro-processing, tourism, hospitality, arts and cultural value chains, with a particular focus on women, youth and people living with disabilities. Through its enterprise development model, WOCSA aims to scale emerging producers into investment-ready, commercially integrated businesses.
Despite progress, representation in the sector remains limited. According to the South African Wine Industry Information and Systems (SAWIS), Black-owned wine brands account for less than 1% of total wine sales by volume, although Black South Africans make up over 80% of the population. Encouragingly, the number of Black-owned producers has grown to approximately 82.
WOCSA was represented in London by CEO and Founder Janine Petersen, Director of International Relations Rosey Almeida, and Director of Operations Herlecia Stevens, supported by officials from DIRCO, Brand South Africa and the South African High Commission.
The event highlighted both the quality and the stories behind the wines. Chamber Chairman Dennis Zietsman described the producers’ journeys as “both humbling and inspiring”, while CEO Svend Littauer noted that “the quality of the wines was world-class”.
Featured producers included G&M, J9, Moedi, Zulu Girl, Magna Carta and M’hudi.
The Chamber previously hosted a similar showcase in London in November 2025 and welcomed the continued participation of several returning brands.
