Chantelé Carrington, a trustee on the SA and UK boards of Help2Read has shared a super cause for South Africa youth employment and learner literacy with us – via the Big Give Christmas Challenge which kicked off on Giving Tuesday. For one week, from November 27th until December 4th, all donations made to help2read will be matched £ for £ by the Big Give.
“We have been awarded a matching pot of £40,000 by our Charity Champions – The Waterloo Foundation and the Brenley Trust – and if we are successful in securing individual giving, we will be able to raise a total of £80,000 which will help fund our Literacy Tutor programme in 2019. This will enable us to increase the number of one-on-one reading sessions in primary schools, as well as training young people as Literacy Tutors in townships in South Africa. This training not only enables young people to become change leaders in their communities through leading one-on-one Reading Sessions, it also enables them to secure future employment and break the cycle of unemployment and poverty.”
“Every £1 donated at this time will be matched and will help us to reach our target. By making a pledge to give and spreading the word, we are sure to reach our goal.”
