Rain did not stop play for the Channel Islands’ chapter’s first family event on Friday 4 August and was in fact a lucky break from the dubious English summer this year! South Africa invaded the Jersey Farmers Cricket Ground for a family cricket day kindly sponsored by AlexForbes Offshore.

A traditional Braai with Jersey’s finest wors rolls, face painting and ice cream for the kids as well as the opportunity to win one of three beach cricket sets was followed by a very competitive game of T20 cricket which looks to become an annual event going forward!

The special select team of South African cricketers took on the Farmers Cricket Club Social Side and we saw a dominant performance by team Cricket-Bokke facing the ever-gracious hosts wonderful Farmers’ field.

Fuelled by biltong, both openers (who happen to be multi-talented rugby players) retired on 30* laying the groundwork for a big total of 186 which the Farmers struggled to reach with some early dismissals!

All proceeds from the day were donated to Cancer Research UK (CRUK) and all in all it was a fantastic, relaxed day with the opportunity to catch up with old friends and make plenty of new ones. https://farmerscricketjersey.net
